Coast Guard Exchange Eligibility Criteria:

These scholarships are specifically for students who are dependents of Coast Guard active duty, reserve, and military retired members, current civilian NAF and APF employees, and current Coast Guard Auxiliarists. To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • Be in their last year of high school or homeschooling and scheduled to graduate
  • The requirement for applicants is to have plans to pursue undergraduate studies at an accredited college or university.
  • Attend college full-time during the subsequent year
  • Not have already graduated
  • Not be accepting appointments to USAFA, USNA, USMA, USCGA, or USMMA
  • Not be participating in nonacademic and/or certified programs

Note that: scholarships will not be awarded for nonacademic or certified programs.

Required Documents:

Here is a list of the documents that need to be attached with the CGX scholarship application form:

  • Official academic transcript including the first semester of the senior year. High schools may submit the transcript directly to the CGX Scholarship Committee.
  • For homeschooled applicants, the current year-end standardized test results, such as IOWA Basic Skills Test, Stanford Achievement Test, and other available tests, along with S.A.T. or A.C.T. scores if taken.
  • Applicants must submit their S.A.T. or A.C.T. scores either by providing a photocopy or by requesting the testing agency to send the results directly to the CGX Scholarship Committee.
  • A short, single-spaced essay, not exceeding one typewritten page, explaining the applicant’s college career aspirations, including educational, professional, and personal goals.
  • Applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation from teachers, school administrators, and/or community leaders.

Deadline:

The deadline for submitting applications for this grant is February 28th of every year. Any applications submitted after the deadline will be rejected without consideration.
